Black Jack Essential Basics – Part One

The basic concept of the card game is to be dealt cards totaling up to 21. Each player is assigned two cards. When a gambler is dealt a 9 or less and an Ace they have been dealt a soft hand. When the gambler receives no Ace cards it is referred to as a hard hand. Once the cards have been dealt every player at the blackjack table, including the dealer, every black jack player is given the chance to make one of 6 actions:

Taking another card (Hit): When a black jack player announces "hit" the croupier will give him another card, if the addition of that card makes the total greater than 21 the black jack player will have lost and be excluded from the game, if the card pushes the total to twenty one the blackjack player is the winner and if the total has not yet reached twenty one they are still in the game.

Keeping the hand you’ve been dealt: If a blackjack player is satisfied with the hand they will stay. As soon as this has happened the croupier will reveal their hand and the gambler who has accumulated twenty-one or the nearest to twenty one will win.

Doubling Down: A blackjack player may request to double down which increases the bet by 100% they have made. As soon as you’ve taken this action you can only be given 1 additional card. The details of doubling down are usually specified by the table or casino rules so prior to wagering make certain you are familiar with the casino rules. If you’re wagering at an internet casino this is usually very easy.

Stay tuned for part 2.
